My response to my disability/your pandemic

Updated: Jun 30, 2023

If there’s anything we’ve learned during this pandemic, it is that life is unpredictable and nothing is guaranteed.

The pandemic was the catalyst for Pleasant View Hobby Farm. Not a lot changed for me because my disability did to me what the pandemic did to others. I was surprised to see how difficult it was for my family to slow down and stay home. They were being forced to be less busy. It made me realize how well I have coped with some of the difficulties I have had in my life. That my response made a huge impact on how my life and the lives of my family turned out. The pandemic did change my life. I had all these wonderful visitors that gave me their time.

My disability/your pandemic is going to leave a legacy

If there’s anything we’ve learned during this pandemic, it is that life is unpredictable and nothing is guaranteed. You’ve got to live with joy while you can and you’ve got to spend as much time as possible with your favorite people while you can, devoting those hours to the people who mean the most to you, and add the most value to your life.

"Pleasant View Hobby Farm" well it was as if it was my way of peeking around the corner and inviting people to enjoy life. Pleasant View Hobby Farm was a deliberate act, creating time for myself and my family. If I am being honest it is one of the most selfish things I have done for myself. You can call this deliberate act "me time". A deliberate act to spend time with my most important loved ones. It also was my intention to save my husband and myself. It would make us get up and move, get needed exercise. It was a care of ourselves and teaching our children to a means of self-care, it was a life balance, pursuing our passions, to uncluttering our homes and our calendar, and treating ourselves as well as we would treat a guest. They’re all the things I wanted to do, the things that I wanted to offer, the means in which to motivate, learning and then showing other people an aspect of life we now call "Pleasant View Hobby Farm." It was a means to employ my clients who would not otherwise have a job. Pleasant View Hobby Farm was an introduction of the very things that I had in my heart, my passion and a means to provide for my family if ever food was scarce.

Pleasant view hobby farm is an invitation you cannot refuse. The main theme is getting outside and enjoying nature. It's message is, engage in life, engage in God and His creation, engage with family and friends! Be present!

The pandemic was the catalyst for pleasant view hobby farm. The pandemic was the catalyst for Pleasant View Hobby Farm. Not a lot changed for me because my disability did to me what the pandemic did to others. I deal with chronic pain which makes leaving my home difficult. I was surprised to see how difficult it was for my family to slow down and stay home. They were being forced to be less busy. It made me realize how well I have coped with some of the difficulties I have had in my life. My pain levels prevented me from gatherings, work and daily tasks. i am realizing now that my response made a huge impact on how my life and the lives of my family turned out. The pandemic did change my life as well. My business was hit hard via staffing. The stress was intense. But I also had all these wonderful visitors that gave me their time. My home became the safe meeting place for my children and grandchildren. We all met at grandmas house. Splashing and going down the slide in the pool, laughter, bomb fires with s'mores and hotdogs on a stick , movies outside, and sharing stories. Food and music was only part of what we were doing. The kids all brought ALL their dogs and at the time we just had our two goats Nuttah and indigo. Added later was some ducks.

I was often alone. So I took in the world around me. Noticed many things people often misss because they are too busy. Outside my sunroom window I watched a robin couple raise babies. I even got to watch the babies fly for the first time. Suddenly it was my children who pointing out the baby birds in the nest, under the pool shelter. They were seeing the world around them. They were engaged. The pandemic was so very scary, but in many ways, it brought better focus, made right our priority list, and gave more value to our time and those in whom we shared it with.

In the early summer I was transfixed by the activity in the lilac bush just outside my sunroom. I sat facing the window, sipping my coffee and watching the wind blow about the lilacs, floating down as if it were raining purple hues. My senses were alive and I could actually hear dozens of birds up in the leaves. Mesmerized by the purple flowers and the strong fragrance of lilacs. The background of my life was truly fascinating. It was something I wouldn’t of experience if I hadn’t been stuck at home and now I have found a way to share it with the people I love. Yes you guessed it again. "Pleasant View Hobby Farm."

I watched my children with their children. Sat back with smiling eyes and at times holding back the tears. In getting outside, it means freely moving our bodies, gaining the perspectives of being a tiny life inside a much larger world and breathing the same air as the ancient trees. The same trees that have seen it all and will still be standing when we’re gone. The pandemic was a way of getting our attention. To me it was a powerful tool I seen in my lifetime. What else could get so many peoples attention? What else could remind us all of our passions and make right our priorities so quickly. What else could help us to reset our hearts and our sou?

You’ll read a lot about the transformative effect of walking out my front door, no matter the season of the year, or the season of my life. My disability/your pandemic is going to leave a legacy! Not just a loss, or economic problems, but renewed focus on what matters! We hope you’ll take the time and enjoy the stories, both in video, pictures and in words, and implement some good habits of your own as you move forward in your life. Most of all we hope you are engaged and present in this thing called life!
